There are three board meetings on Tuesday, May 22nd. The closed session is at 2pm, there is no agenda online...hmmm... At the next meeting the board honors our hardworking classified staff. A reception begins at 4:15pm at Taft Middle School, 9191 Gramercy Drive 92123 followed by the meeting at 5pm.

A special meeting has been called for 7:00pm at the Ed Center Auditorium. This meeting will determine if layoffs for teachers will be rescinded or moved forward. Here is the presentation and includes the list of teachers (including those rescinded following their hearings). Next is a resolution to keep the district fiscally sound.

In other news...here is a way to have your voice heard on the budget crisis. This short video was created by a couple of dads involved with Educate Our State to remind our legislators that it's our children they hurt most with their decisions. After watching the video, send them your message (scroll down on the page).

The Grand Jury has issued it's "Free Education" Report. You can read it here. It's still confusing and they are suggesting countywide standards.

That's all for now,
Debbie

The board is planning on selling some prime real estate to put toward next year's budget. With the bad economy and lowered real estate values, is it really necessary to give up these properties for a one-time fix? Wouldn't it be more prudent to sign long-term leases that bring in revenue every year?  Here is the agenda item. Here is the timeline. Here is one group of parcels. Here are the others. The decision has to be made this month and it takes four votes to pass. Here is contact information for the board. Please let them know where you stand, these properties belong to all of us, so our opinions should matter.

On Wednesday, May 16th at 5:30pm at the Ed Center, there will be a meeting to discuss the proposed bond. If you are interested in hearing the proposal and whether or not spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to convince taxpayers to approve another bond is feasible, you may want to attend. You can always send the board an email with your support or objection.

Here is an interesting article sent to us by school board candidate Bill Ponder. I encourage all of you to watch the video linked near the end. It's about a 9 year old boy from LA and his creative mind, it was truly inspirational.

Sign Up for Public Testimony on agenda-related items.  Non-agenda testimony is heard at regular board meetings only. As always, contact your school board members to let your voice be heard. Click here for school board contact information

If you can't attend the meeting, you can watch on your computer or on Channel 16 iTV. Information here.
