There are a couple of board meetings tomorrow, February 7th. Their closed session follows the first meeting. Here is the agenda. For those of you in the Lincoln Cluster, it looks like they will be discussing the appointment of a lead principal at Lincoln. Remember, you can speak at a closed session meeting prior to it's start. The first meeting begins at 9am in Room 2226. Here is the agenda. They will discuss "board self assessment", updating their governance policies and bylaws. There are four supporting documents at the bottom of the link above, in case you'd like to read them.

The regular meeting begins at 5pm in the Auditorium. This is a charter school meeting, with the following schools on the agenda:

Health Sciences High and Middle College,  San Diego Cooperative,  Arroyo Paseo,  Albert Einstein Academy,  Village Academy of Cognitive Development (new request),  Tubman Village

They will also discuss recommended changes for charter policies. Here is the document.

I have attached a sample letter given to me by the GATE parent representative. If your child has been affected by the decimation of this program, please consider voicing your opinion to the board immediately. Currently, our 5th grade seminar class has 34 students. Part of the reason we chose to move our child from his home school to participate in seminar was the promise of smaller class sizes. Ha!
This leads to the next business...the push to fund the newly added graduation requirements. Our children will no longer have the option to chose career ready classes but will be forced to take two in order to graduate. This will mean less time to take AP courses and an huge increase in the budget. I also wonder how universities will react to seeing students taking these classes and having fewer AP courses. For some students this will not be a problem, but to those who want to compete to attend major universities, this could really hold them back. There will be a presentation at next Tuesday's board meeting to ask for millions of dollars to implement these changes. How in their right minds can they vote to spend millions of dollars on this unnecessary policy when we face another increase in class sizes and the loss of hundreds of teachers next year? We have to speak out now. As more information on the actual presentation becomes available, I will let you know. Please consider speaking or sending a letter. This has to stop now. Contact your board member today.
